Antique Luncheon Plates, Set of 4, Grape Clusters, Silesia Province, Embossed with Heavy Scallops, Excellent Condition
It is a miracle that these 4 plates have survived over 100 years, they were very loved and well taken care of. The design is that of grape clusters and vines, a light green background with just the lightest of opalescence. The borders are embossed with vines, and the edges are scalloped. Absolutely no chips or cracks, they are lovely.
Each plate measures 8 1/4 inches in diameter.
A brief history on Silesia - The Silesia region was part of the Prussian realm since 1740 and established as an official province in 1815, then became part of the German Empire in 1871. In 1919, as part of the Free State of Prussia within Weimar Germany, Silesia was divided into the provinces of Upper Silesia and Lower Silesia. Silesia was reunified briefly from 1938 to 1941 as a province of Nazi Germany before being divided back into Upper Silesia and Lower Silesia.
