Metal Bookend, The Angelus, Praying Couple with Basket of Potatoes, Irish Potato Famine, Very Heavy, 1930s
Beautiful and meaningful 1930s bookend, depicting the painting by JF Millet titled The Angelus. Couple praying over a small basket of potatoes. My Mother, being Irish, told me that this represented the Irish Potato Famine to her personally. The Irish Potato Famine began in Ireland in 1845 and continued for a number of years and brought many Irish immigrants to America.
This bookend measures 5 inches by 4 1/2 inches and is heavy. In good condition, aged to perfection.
